As Jews, ours is a long and proud heritage that is well worth preserving, and the best way to maintain Jewish continuity is by educating and inspiring the next generation. Jewish Education is a living tradition that our students can literally trace back to Sinai, and at Talmud Torah we are extremely proud to take part in this vital and holy task.
Ottawa Talmud Torah Afternoon School is our city's oldest Jewish school, and we have built a reputation for excellence in Jewish education for over 80 years. Today, we remain dedicated to offering the highest quality and most comprehensive supplemental school program in the Ottawa Jewish community. With our passionate, highly-qualified staff, we hope to make Judaism come to life for our students and engage them both intellectually and spiritually.
It has been said that, when trying to define Judaism, no one specific category seems fully appropriate. In some ways, Judaism seems to be a religion, but in others it would seem more fitting to describe it as a culture, while race and nation could also be suggested. However, fully understanding the essence of Judaism, the most accurate description would have to be ‘family’. This is certainly the spirit we aim to create at OTTAS both for our students and for their families – one where all feel welcome, are proud and excited about our Jewish heritage, and enjoy a sense of community.
